Christophe Carlier

Christophe Carlier is a Belgian-born contemporary painter and visual arts professor currently based in Morelia, Mexico. Best known for his vibrant, semi-abstract oil paintings, Carlier’s work translates the bold botanical and geographic forms of nature into striking, large-scale compositions.Holding a Master in Visual Arts from the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Tournai in Belgium, his rigorous European classical training is beautifully enriched by the chromatic shock of his adopted home. Moving to Mexico in 2010, he found profound inspiration in the country's rich flora, folklore, and sprawling landscapes. "If you look closely at a cactus, it is not just green," Carlier explains. "Its shadows, lights, and textures reflect a complex range of colors. My work as an artist is to teach the world that we do not necessarily see what we think we see." Through deep observation, his canvases become a form of colorful meditation, where color is perceived with the soul rather than just the eyes.A respected academic, Carlier currently shares his expertise as a Visual Arts Professor at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH) in Mexico, having previously taught painting at the Académie Constantin Meunier in Brussels, Belgium. ...
