CJ Kilgore is a Canadian artist who received her Communications and Design degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design. A lifelong career in graphics, photography and illustration inform her practice.
Interested in disappearing traditions and cultural practices, she works from found images and her own photographs and memories to both fix and document, and to convey the magic in the fleeting imagery of evermore rare events.
Her rodeo series transports the viewer to a past time, however by painting in high realism, framing severe graphic compositions and addressing perspective in a singular way, she creates a modern context- demanding fresh consideration.
She is inspired by loose painterly artists like Ivon Hitchens, Malcolm Liepke, Eric Fischl, and is the biggest fan of Gerhardt Richter.
