Following years of living in heavily congested environments, the tranquility of the rural landscape now heavily influences Doveton's work. She paints large-scale skyscapes and stark, sprawling fields that depict the subtle complexities of her everyday surroundings. Her lucid, dream-like oil paintings capture an ethereal haze of earth and sky, but are also rooted in deeper metaphors for life and death; body and mind. The blur between fields is often translucent and undefined in her work - giving only a vague sense of separation, and questioning where one concept ends and another begins.
Clare Doveton is a graduate of Parsons School of Art and Design in New York City. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Zen Center, and decades of meditation practice play a key role in her work. She completed permaculture design certification through Kansas Permaculture Collaborative as part of her continued interest and research of integrated systems and patterns in nature. Doveton was the Featured Artist for the Lawrence Arts Center Benefit Art Auction in 2015, and now also serves on their Board of Directors.
