Rachel Clark

I am a painter. I also work occasionally in print (etching) which offers me rich and sumptuous colour with a depth and luminosity which is individual and with a quality different from painting.

I work in series. My work is a kind of narrative without storytelling. In this concrete, material world of the routine and familiar there is also available to us the limitless inner world of imagination and senses, an unknown world, never seen but strangely familiar, It is a rich, constantly available source where the mind explores freely and slips fluidly between what is known and what is unknowable. It is as real and as potent as anything you can touch and has as much to do with our experience of what it is to be human as what is instantly and obviously recognisable. This is the territory I explore.

I have run life painting and drawing courses ' Life Painting and Drawing with Rachel Clark' from my London studio since 1976.
