Claudia Slaney

Claudia is a multi-award winning artist from Auckland, New Zealand.
 
Her current focus is on New Zealand and European towns and landscapes, as well as the abstract images that emerge from these local scenes.

She seeks to bring a distinctive and contemporary feel to a beautiful and traditional medium. “The stunning effects produced by the interactions of the different pigments with water, paper and each other are impossible to resist, so that of all the mediums it is always watercolour I return to”.

Prior to 2010, while living in London she regularly attended life drawing classes at Candid Arts Trust, drawing and painting classes at the Royal Academy through the New English Art Club, and various classes at the Sir John Soanes Museum.
 
Recent awards include:
• First Place in the Auckland Watercolour Society Annual Awards Exhibition
• First Place in the Fellowship of Artists Annual Working Members Awards 2014
• Third Place in the 2014 Easter Show Watercolours section for second consecutive year
• Finalist, and second place Peoples Choice Award in the 2014 Peters Doig Marlborough National Art Awards
• First Place in Watercolours in the Fellowship of Artists Working and Associate Members Exhibition 2013
