Trip To Corsica: The Art of Chance
I think that the art of this century will begin to move away from its focus on the machine, as in the last century, and towards the natural, the earth-based. As we get reacquainted with this planet, from which we have become so disconnected, art will reflect that reunion.
In 2005 I had the opportunity to explore the Mediterranean island of Corsica. Tumbling down hairpin roads with shocks of blue swirling below, reddish cliffs , peach earth behind massive boulders, I was greatly influenced by the experience. I came back to my studio on the mainland and created Trip To Corsica: The Art of Chance. With its geometric composition it was unlike anything I had done before and I hadnt worked on board for fifteen years. Other paintings came careening into reality like our rented Renault almost hurtling off a tiny country road near Evisa to avoid a family of pigs.
