Corinne Mariaud

Corinne Mariaud, French Photographer, lives and works in Paris
Her photographic series evoke, through the figure of the body, the quest for identity, the
struggle of the individual to preserve singularity in a standardized world.
It questions the image of the woman and her place in our contemporary society, the diktat
of appearance, cliché about feminity and masculinity.

She was inspired to become a photographer in discovering the work of the american artist Cindy Sherman. She was also fascinated by the drawings of Robert Longo and the humour of Erwin Wurm. She relates to the work of numerous artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Nancy Spero or Kiki Smith who have questioned the female identity. Litterature being of great importance to her, she draw inspiration from the works of many writers as Virginia Wolf, Susan Sontag, Annie Ermaux, Virginie Despentes and Paul Preciado..


After graduate studies at the National School of Arts Duperré in Paris, Corinne started out working for magazines like Liberation, Le Monde, Marie Claire , in fashion and portraits, before turning to fine art photography.
