Cyrille Gulassa

I've been fascinated by color most likely since my mom painted my bedroom a vibrant mix of pink and orange as a young child. The affair was settled: we'd be life long companions, and I'd explore the intersection of hues with great joy. I spent my youth playing in vibrant, vivid colors, an invigorating engine of zest and fun - and perhaps a reflection of the California sunshine. Later I moved to Central Eastern Europe, and was struck by the softer palettes, eventually succumbing to the pull of these sensuous shades.

My interest in light, frequency, physics, consciousness all intersect in my more current "Phaintings" - photographs of my colored paintings - where the multi-layered dimensions of light and color create a soft meditative narrative. I think of this as the collective of ancestors, embracing us in lulling hues and calling us back into the womb of humanity.
