“For me painting is meditative …I travel into an imaginary world. I am awake, I am alert, yet completely absorbed in the act of painting...not thinking of anything else”
My abstracts landscapes are based on the Australian bush and water and my connections to the geographies of previous places I have lived in: East Africa, USA, Canada, Israel and England.
I aim my paintings to be luscious and evocative, exploring both the physical landscape and an inner understanding and interpretation of that landscape.
Experiences and feelings of nature are taken back to my studio. I paint large, use a lot of paint and, while painting, move energetically to allow movement to initiate rhythms and flow. Intuition of the landscape and boldness drive the work.
Painting a landscape creates for me, and hopefully my viewers, a sense shared ownership and belonging: a connection, a duty of care, and common experience of landscapes.
