David Kleiner was raised in New Jersey by parents who were themselves accomplished painters. He began oil painting at the age of 12, accompanying his father to local farms with an easel to paint pictures of barns "en plein air." He attended Rutgers College where he studied Russian Literature, and then Harvard where he received a Masters degree in Architecture. He has always maintained a painting studio throughout his life (except for that summer when he lived on a boat in Alaska and only had a sketchbook). Even in his college dormitory he was given a room in the basement to use as a studio. He has shown his work in cafes, bars, bookstores, galleries, and art fairs and is included in many private collections throughout the United States. He is proficient in oil, acrylic, encaustic and gouache, creating traditional easel subjects of landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes, figures, and portraits. He owns a house in Weehawken New Jersey and makes his living as an architect.
