I like many artist have been making art for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Queens New York in the early 80's, as a first generation American I always felt out of place. Culturally divided I rebelled gravitating towards graffiti.
It encompassed all the outsider swagger I needed to fit in while beautifully destroying what I wanted.
Sharp angles mixed with soft bubbles of vibrant colors revealed secret messages to those able to read it.
Through out my multi-disciplinary practice this early sense of otherness has remained an influence in my art. It settles into my recent small work where I am exploring with lacquer and markers on wood. The process starts intuitively without concept and develops by allowing a combination of graffiti style shapes and drips to flow and blend into forms,
re-painting and editing my marks until the painting is revealed to those who can see it.
