Dawn Buckley

From my home in Guildford (Surrey, UK) I create art from the creative centre within me often unaware of where the creative process will take me. My work is an exploration and an adventure in what it means to be human both individually and collectively.

I believe that our own inner wisdom sits inside us waiting for us to listen and take notice. By connecting with and expressing my own moments of 'dawning', I hope to encourage, facilitate and inspire others to find their own moments of awareness, growth, awakening, acceptance, love and healing.

I was raised on the Wirral Peninsula in England near the Dee Estuary that looks across to Wales. Growing up I was hugely influenced by the sport of badminton, a particularly popular sport in China and India. Me, my parents and sister began playing and all soon became hooked. In my late 40's I gained a masters world ranking in Racketlon.

The reaction speed required to play badminton in particular and the immediacy of play are aspects from this incredible sport that I endeavour to bring into my creative work today. In terms of formal qualifications, I have a BSc in Mathematics, a I have a Foundation degree in Counselling a Psychotherapy, and a Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher training certification.

In terms of life's education, like most people in my age group, I have a over half a century of learning and experience from the things I've been involved in and incorporate these influences into my art: some key activities that stand out for me are elite sports, an international business career in IT Telecommunications, parenting two children, running my own therapy and leadership development coaching business, practicing and teaching yoga and spending time in nature. I value greatly the time I am able to spend on the North Downs near my home either alone or in the company of great friends.

My biggest teachers have been my family, nature and numerous other amazing people along the way.

I began painting with a 10 week course at Guildford's Adult Education centre when my children were very young where I learnt the basics of how to use acrylic paints. I have been pretty much self taught in this realm since - though with incredible influences that are just too numerous to mention.
