RECOGNITION

Deborah Murphy has been a life long artist, creating works of art since she was a child. She grew up in Toronto and spent many vacations in northern Ontario.
The tranquil moments spent immersed in nature inspire most of her pieces. It is therapeutic to paint. Creating in front of a canvas affords the time to decompress. The simple act of applying paint to canvas becomes a calming and revitalizing process.
Deborah has been able to pursue art full time since moving with her family to Europe in 2011. She has had the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed abstract artist, Maryolga Nieto and also worked in the studio of Hans Bonte, who specializes in portraiture.
She paints plein air in water colour and acrylic and completes many studies in pencil sketch when she is travelling.
Deborah enjoys the freedom of abstract art. She tends to move away from the natural colour palette of her landscape pieces and prefers to use bold reds, purples and fuchsias. She completes many pieces on a commissioned basis and consults with her clients on colour schemes, size and mood that the individual piece is meant to convey.

Deborah has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario and a Bachelor of Education from University of Toronto. She is mostly a self taught artist. However, having lived in the city of Leiden, where Rembrandt was born, for seven years she had the good fortune to be surrounded by talented artists, many of whom have become close friends. Special thanks to Maryolga Nieto, Tanja Teufert, the late Willem van Scheijndel and Hans Bonte for your encouragement and keen eye for detail. She now makes her permanent home in Northern France.
