15|12|1943 Dordrecht NL. As a sculptor I have lived and worked in The Netherlands, United States and now live and work in Finland.
"The means is the message Lucien den Arend doesn't limit himself to specific materials or techniques. He is concerned with conveying his message by means of geometric construction and organization. Sometimes his work results in objects, while it can also present itself as an urban or natural environment.Lucien den Arend (Dordrecht NL 1943) usually works for local and national governments. He creates new situations which involve the public. The realm in which he operates lies between constructing concrete objects and totally altering or composing new urban and natural environments. Scale is for him of essential importance. The work relates itself to the human dimension and vice versa. Inasmuch as other artists present their message through the content of their work, he involves the observer of the work with the interaction of lines, planes and material. His work owes its significance to this interaction. He uses materials from his surroundings - depending on the location, these can be metal, stone, water, earth or plants; as long as he is in control. Trees grow and water moves, as long as it takes place...
