I am a native of Prince Edward Island, who has made Ottawa my home for the past 50 years. I am presently a member of the Artists of Stonebridge and the Manotick Art Association in Ottawa.
I strive to fill my work with the ambience of place and time rather than details. I look for the predominant quality of the subject, and fill the work with saturated colour and gestural brushwork to express that quality. Believing that first impressions are very important, I feel that my work must make an impact on the viewer from first glance.
I hope that I can draw on the observer's own interpretation of what they are seeing. In that way I feel I might involve the viewer's imagination and personal memories of places and experiences from their lives.
I have studied art at Prince of Wales College (now UPEI) under Eleanor Lowe a former student of Arthur Lismer. I spent ten years studying with nationally known artist Bruce Heggtveit as a member of the Gatineau Group of Painters which he founded.
I have been represented by the following galleries:
Prince Edward Island: the former Confederation Centre Art Sales and Rental Gallery, the Dunes Studio Gallery, the former Pilar Shephard Art Gallery.
Ottawa: the former Jackpine Gallery, the former Stittsville Cooperative Gallery.
