My name is Dorit Schwarzkopf Moss. I am a contemporary abstract figurative artist. I was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and immigrated to Los Angeles when I was 12 years old. I grew up surrounded by art. My parents were art collectors and I was heavily influenced by many European artists, including Picasso and Henry Moore, as well as Latin artists such as Rufino Tomayo, Wilfred Lam, and Vladimir Cora. I followed my heart and studied art from a young age. Early on I worked in multiple mediums, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, and ceramic. For the last 20 years or so I have worked primarily in oil and mixed media on canvas and wood panels.
My paintings convey my personal experience of embodiment and my understanding of the human body in its many forms. My figure styles have morphed from the hyper-feminine, to the architectural, to the stoic. I treasure seeing strong women in my work, and grow with each new piece. Many of the works invite questions around the meaning of femininity and play with gender markers and androgyny.
I hope that my work will entice you to feel more deeply the continually shifting experience of inhabiting and appreciating the human form.
My paintings are held in private collections in Los Angeles,...
