Introduction

Pastels have been used by artists since the Renaissance, and became quite popular in the 18th and 19th century, as many well-known artists experimented with pastel drawings.  A rather popular medium today, it has been used most noticeably by well-known artists including Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, Edouard Manet, Eugene Delacroix, Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec, and Fernando Botero. Pastel drawings incorporate a wide range of rich color tones, and they are noted for their velvety texture and for the ease at which the medium can be blended. Saatchi Art offers a variety of contemporary pastel drawings for sale in an array of styles. We offer soft pastel drawings, oil pastel drawings, and chalk pastel drawings that have been executed either on paper or canvas. Explore our selection of artwork today!
