Elliott Block

Dr. Elliott Block is a Florida-based photographer who, for over 60 years, has been actively photographing natural and inanimate items in which he finds beauty. After a career as an executive in the biomedical industry where he oversaw the research, development and commercialization of many important clinical diagnostics, he has concentrated on developing his photographic and artistic skills by attending classes and taking thousands of film pictures followed by tens of thousands of digital pictures. His pictures are of only one genre; the beauty he sees all around: birds, flowers, automobilia, architecture, industrial equipment and a wide range of other items. The camera’s images are just the starting points that he transforms into meaningful, expressive art; sometimes just the structure or geometric pattern and other times the combination of colors and shapes. His images might be in color, black and white or in a combination of color and black and white. He finds an object that exhibits a distinctive characteristic and then captures some component that might not be apparent if one doesn’t separate the detail from the larger, more obvious structure.
