Dr. Edward Belbruno is an artist-scientist at Princeton University. He is a researcher and mathematician in the Department of Astrophysics.
In 1987, he published his discovery of Weak Stability Boundaries and Low Energy Transfers while working in NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. In 1991, the Japanese government utilized Weak Stability Boundaries and Low Energy Transfer to rescue an errant spacecraft, Hiten. ().
In 1992, Dr. Belbruno abandoned his math and science career and moved to Minnesota to live in an artist community in St. Paul called the Rossmor. In an inefficiently heated building, he delved more deeply into his art.
In 1998, he moved to Princeton, NJ, to pursue his painting career and to rejoin the math and science community as a researcher for Princeton University.
In 2006, Dr. Belbruno’s style shifted into Abstract Expressionism.
In 2016, Dr. Belbruno’s work displayed media purity that express his sense of beauty and balance in the cosmos and a newfound harmony in his personal reality. Dr. Belbruno paints in spontaneity from a source he calls the Universe.
