Ed Doxtator

I am a Chicago artist. My canon includes architectural drawings, the graphic art of Willie Elder, David Mazzuchelli, and Don Martin. I take a left turn from there into modernists, and post-modernists such as Leger, Demuth, Sheele. Some have told me these styles run at cross-purposes, but this is the Perceptron I have built. I find that one of my greatest joys is capturing my city and life as I see it-- beautiful, strong, scratchy, tiresome, filthy.

For me, the most interesting thing is the response. Not as a provocateur, but to hear someone's response to my work.

My academic training is in Software Engineering, which I've done for 35 years. However, I have been drawing for as long as I could hold a pencil. In the last few years I have taken classes offered by both the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

As it turns out, there is a great deal of overlap between the two disciplines-- they are both creative, both make something out of nothing, both require problem-solving skills, both are fueled by the feeling of making something expressive, and both are useless if not shared.
