Edward Brocklehurst

My practice is focused on painting. I don't get held up in the idea of contemporary. My work aims to portray reality as it actually is. I’m heavily influenced by the traditional as much as the modern - Nigel Cooke and Simon Stalenhag are my inspirations.

Digital work started it. I simply started out to create pretty pictures. This is probably why I work traditionally on canvas. Although my work has a political side, its as much to me about enjoying the process of producing a work of art, which is often very relevant to what is currently happening in my life. I choose not to use reference material; I think this often makes my work have a surreal environment but by the time I finish a work it's often grammatically correct.
