Elaine Hoye

I am a mostly self-taught painter, having spent just one semester, many decades ago, as an art major. I have made art for five decades but began working in oils only after my retirement seven years ago.
I am inspired by the natural world and our place within it. I love everything about playing with color, shape and line and discover new things every day.

I graduated with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. I had a 40 year career working in research, primarily at the University of California.
Great precision and attention to detail was required in the work that I did for close to 40 years. Art has always been a wonderful counterbalance, providing me with a creative outlet that allowed me to play freely.

I exhibited single pieces a couple of times, decades ago, and had a figurative acrylic piece accepted into a juried show in San Francisco approximately 30 years ago.
