I completed my MA in Art & Design in 2015, using a self-devised technique with a scalpel and monochromatic canvas, immersing myself in an exploration of darkness in order to (quite literally) unmask the unknown.

Using the representation of factual ideas – life, nature and structure – and throwing them into an abstract form, I look embraces the apparent limitations of a black surface. These ‘still’ images achieve their animated visual effects through the dynamic aspect of the line. And as using a scalpel – without guideline – leaves no room for error, every work is a one-take, free form improvisation – a snapshot of my immediate psyche.

I have since then looked to learn a variation of techniques to coincide with my scalpel practice. Using graphic design techniques I can look to manipulate the original scalpel designs by injecting them with colour.

Recently I have been crossing my artwork with modular video synths, allowing me to animate my existing artworks in another form which has become a passion of mine.
