Emilie Rondeau was born in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec in 1979. She now lives and works in the Lower St-Lawrence area of Kamouraska, Quebec. She received her master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2006 and a bachelor's degree in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University in 2004. Since 2004, she has taken part in many solo and group exhibitions in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and New Mexico.
My visual practice aims to challenge and alter our perception of reality. I favour free and intuitive interventions in my work. Although abstract, my paintings carry the memories of atmospheric gardens, nebulous spaces, organic landscapes and structural designs. A combination of solid, bright colours, transparent washes, painted and sketched marks, my compositions are reminiscent of complex and dreamlike places. From the infinitely big to the infinitely small, cosmic or cellular spaces come alive and convey strong impressions of movement and energy.
Intersecting and intertwining lines create connections between shape and colour. Bold and energetic marks meet slow and gentle movement of line. The colours, pure and vibrant harmonise with their environment within the boundaries of the unusual. ...
