Emma Hutchinson

My art begins with the figure, surface and texture. The biological body as an object is beautiful in its individuality, but it is the small moments - the details of a scar or blemish, a tattoo or smile, that capture the essence of what it means to live inside this flawed flesh. I hope to gather and share an archive of these ‘moments’ through my work.

I use charcoal or graphite to get under the skin of my subject, to leave my mark through the way that shadow and light interplay on muscle and bone. My practice is a celebration of the variety of form, a journey without end.

My practice is based in Somerset, UK. My work can be found in private collections worldwide.
