Lia Kok

I am a Dutch female artist.

From childhood on I loved drawing and always felt an urge to create. My first overwhelming experience of art was in front of Picasso's Guernica Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid in my early twenties. I slowly grew in the realisation that I wanted to become a painter because of the urge I kept feeling to express myself via the medium of visual art.

In my work I explore the human condition and nature. It's not an explicit message that I want to convey, but a general existential feeling. It's about the delicate line between blossoming, decay and coping and the factors that contribute in that proces. Also I hope to convey some of the mystery that s surrounds all life.

My style is somewhere within the range of semi-figurative to (semi-) abstract.

I work with all sorts of media, often mixed media. I like to experiment with different kind of techniques. I work mainly with acrylic- and oilpaint, sometimes combined with some form of collage and sometimes I finish it off with a resin topcoat.

In my paintings I want to convey the existential feeling of being human and the natural environment that surrounds us with its beauty and threats to it.
