I tend to jump between various subjects involving photographic and visual mediums. I believe this helps me keep my mind fresh and ever-improving, I have never been very good at “normal” or cratering images that fit the latest trends. At my base, I am an artist/photographer but I also work in mixed media and any other forms of creativity I find inspiring. As an artist, I believe it is essential to be in control of your work every step of the way. I prefer to make my own wood canvases print my own work (or work with a printer I trust) and retouch my own images. This ensures that my work is a true representation of what I envision as an artist. Tiled Art; A Practice in Destruction and Reconstruction; Most of my mixed media work is created using tiled photographs. Deconstruction and reconstruction is the inspiration behind this work. I do this by first creating the image in Photoshop using images that I photograph in my studio and on location (all models and landscapes are photographed by me. No AI. ). After I’m done editing the image I then take the finished piece and cut it out digitally (Deconstruction) then it’s divided into even squares and I print it out over many sheets. I then physically put the artwork back together to reform the entire image (Reconstruction). I feel this gives the finished image a more organic or handmade feel and leads the viewer to look more closely at my work. The use of gel medium and acrylic paint; I use acrylic paint, gold leaf, gel medium, and other elements to create texture and depth in some of my images. These elements combine to generate the setting for the image underneath. Repetitive layering and painting continue until I feel that a sense of harmony is present between these physical components and the evocative aspects of the subject that is being depicted. My goal with texture is to create a canvas that is full of life and to form the underlying structure. The wood canvas; All of my limited edition mixed media art is mounted on a wood canvas that I make by hand. I also add acrylic paint to the edges of many of my works. I do this to ground and frame the image and create a unique look that adds interest to the image. Limited Editions; Because my work is based on photography there is an issue with reproductions. Each limited edition work is signed and numbered on the back of the canvas to prove its authenticity and there is a certificate of authenticity attached to the back of each canvas.
