Anita Dewitt

I create two- and three-dimensional artworks that explore the struggle and balance individuals experience while working toward self-actualization. Using graphite, paint, and clay, I construct highly realistic figures based on photographs and live models, often placing them within imagined settings with invented costumes or unexpected environments. These additions shift real people into a slightly theatrical space—like paper dolls placed into new scenes—where reality and imagination intersect.
I am drawn to the strength and discipline of acrobats, dancers, and performers. In my work, I capture them both at the height of their physical ability and in quieter, contemplative moments, revealing the tension between outward performance and inner reflection. Recurring themes in my work include the performing arts and figures caught in moments of introspection. Through drawing, painting, and sculpture, I combine technical precision with imaginative narrative, creating work that invites viewers into a believable yet subtly fantastical world.
