I am a realist landscape painter and have been painting for forty years.

My art mainly focuses on the New Zealand landscape, its beauty and serenity, but does include a number of French paintings from a recent visit to that country. I like to choose subjects which feature water and relish the challenge to capture light and the reflective qualities of water. As a landscaper also, the natural forms of trees and plants form an integral part of my paintings.
I believe we are blessed in this country to have a wide variety of flora and natural life forms which deserve our respect and admiration so it is a pleasure to represent them in a painting.
The natural light in this country often shows subjects in sharp clarity with less atmospheric interruption. I try to capture this "crispness" as it gives the painting a fresh feel and a special New Zealand quality.
Many of my paintings come from photographs I have taken in areas that interest me such as the east and west coasts of the Auckland isthmus and areas of bush that incorporate streams and rivers and waterfalls. Having lived on the Auckland's North Shore for the past thirty years, many of my scenes come from the local area.

Education

I have a four year Bachelor of Education degree from Waikato University, a Diploma of Education and a Teachers Training Certificate. I have had thirty years teaching experience, five in the primary field and the remainder in secondary schools and have taught art at high school level .My other subjects included, French, my major, English, Maori, landscaping, Music and Social Studies. I was Head of Maori Studies at Carmel College for six years. I taught French and Maori at evening classes for ten years at both Westlake Boys High School and Rangitoto College on Auckland's North Shore. I taught at Westlake Boys High School for eighteen years and was at Carmel College for six years.

2012 Artists Den and Art Gallery 20 Kitchener Road Milford

This was a one week solo exhibition entitled “Land of Light” and featured
NZ landscapes.

2011 Matakana art exhibition (Martakana ) Auckland Anniversary weekend

I was specially invited to contribute and was featured first in the catalogue.


2010 Kumeu Art in the Garden

I was chosen as a feature artist in this year’s art in the garden show. I was
used in the advertising promotion for the event.


2010 Bruce Mason Centre

Four of my paintings have been selected to hang in the upstairs lounge gallery of the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna.

2010 Theosart Gallery Mairangi Bay.
This was a solo exhibition featuring my paintings for a period of 5 weeks Cards , prints and calendars were available for purchase also. Some of these are available in shops. My paintings are all of New Zealand landscapes featuring bush, coastal scenes, waterfalls and streams.
