Catherine grew up in New York City and the Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts. She often spent time in her father's, Fred Leuchs, stained glass studio learning to use her hands and working by his side. His studio was full of his work along with her great-uncle's, sculptor Augustus Lukeman, a friend and colleague of sculptor Daniel Chester French.
She grew up loving color and form with lines that flow. She has always loved tools. Her hands being her favorite. Initially she carved in stone, chiseling marble and alabaster until they revealed the sculptures hidden inside.
Catherine then began casting her work in bronze using the lost wax process. The style of her sculptures has evolved into contemporary abstract art that explores human and organic form.
Formally from the northeast and then Sonoma County CA, she has just moved to Palo Alto, CA. A fan of her work recently wrote,”Catherine’s beautiful abstract sculptures encompasses gestural form with figurative elements.”
She studied mechanical engineering and art at Stanford University.
She exhibits in galleries on the east and west coast. She has shown at Lincoln Center, Soho, and Long Island City in New York. Her work is on permanent display in Constitution Hall in Washington,DC. Exhibiting in Dubai alongside pieces from legendary artists such as Brancusi, Giacometti, Donald Judd and Picasso brought her to the international art stage in 2009. Currently, her works are part of the Izen Miller Gallery in Palm Desert, CA, the Wit Gallery in Lenox, MA as well as here on Saatchi.
