Hagen Baal

I mainly work in the field of digital arts, mixed media and photography. I studied photography at the university of higher education in Dortmund in courses of visual communication and successfully completed my studies after 9 semesters with an exam as a diplom photo designer. A few years ago I started experimenting with digital art and photographic experiments, my focus shifting from the photographic depiction of reality to merging my photographs with the different areas of art, mixing them with paintings, graphics, illustration and collage to create with a unique effect, which transfers the original picture into abstraction an opens more space for emotions and associations. The motif is often transferred from the real world into an abstract space, where it often has a completely different effect. Each piece of art shown here at Saatchi is originally a photograph taken by myself. After the optimization and the experiments on the PC, pictures are often created that can hardly be distinguished from paintings, but are always photographs. After graduating, I spent several years in Hamburg and Berlin, where I worked as a photo assistant and freelance photographer with my own business.
