Edward Trost has more than 30 years’ experience in the arts, working in a variety of media including ceramics, large scale sculpture, and animated feature films. In his portraiture, Trost renders his subject’s likeness as a collection of scorched tones, utilising a pyrographic technique to create individual burn marks on plywood. He selects subjects who have faced mental health challenges with inner strength and resilience. By highlighting recognisable people either actively working through depression or advocating on behalf of the community, Trost hopes his art will help to correct misconceptions about these debilitating illnesses.
Northern Rivers College major in ceramics
He has been a finalist in exhibitions including the Wyndham Art Prize, the Clayton Utz Portrait Prize (twice), the Bluethumb Portrait Prize, the Hurford Hardwood Portraiture Prize, the Sunshine Coast Art Prize and the Brisbane Portrait Prize. He was also both the winner and the people’s choice award winner at Expressions Exhibition, Brisbane.
