Born in Faro Portugal, Manuela (Manny) Martins-Karman is an abstract artist in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. “If you ask me what I am here to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud!” Manny works intuitively without preconceived notions and often aided by music. She starts to lay down marks and paint and see where it takes her. This part of the process is free and full of potential and not yet weighted down by the decision-making that enters into it later on. Manny’s paintings are layered bursts of energy that record experience. She blends nature in the here and now with memories of past experiences. Shape, form, and line fall into a sea of emotion. She embraces the never-ending process of learning, seeing and experimenting. Manny’s works primarily in acrylic, and loves to switch it up with watercolour, mixed media, and drawing. She is an active artist with original paintings held in private and corporate collections in Canada and internationally.
