Dutch artist Leopold van de Ven (b. 1966) mixes his own materials from scratch, using combinations such as carved hardwood with paint or layered collages. His sculptures reflect his background in architecture and his interest in spatiality, which he explores in an abstract way. He works intuitively, drawing on a mix of thoughts, photo-based memories, and impressions from the landscape. Materials like wood, papier-mâché, painted and sculpted surfaces, and recycled objects form the basis for two- and three-dimensional works.
