My name is Jamie Barrett, and I am a geometric, interactive light sculpture artist. Futuretro [pronounced future-retro] is my artist pseudonym, it symbolises an equilibrium between the future and the past, flowing harmoniously in the present moment. This concept is central to the creation of my sculptures, as the intention of my work, aesthetically and psychologically, is the balance and flow of energy. My mission is to make art that not only looks good, but also provides a therapeutic, mood-enhancing experience for the observer. Designed to aid relaxation, my sound responsive light sculptures enrich their environment and refresh the mind. The forms of the pieces are based on sacred geometry, tessellation and fractal patterns found in nature that have been proven to have a calming effect. Such geometric patterns resonate harmoniously with our subconscious, soothing the part of our brain that is constantly trying to make order from the apparent chaos around us, that’s why we are naturally drawn to them. Thus, my interactive sculptures make beautiful focal points that induce tranquillity to enhance your surroundings and awaken your senses. I use the highest quality, sustainable materials (solid wood and eco-resin) to handcraft my unique, geometric sculptures and each piece incorporates interactive coloured lighting. I design the internal electronics so my light sculptures can display a visual representation of the music they sense. The concealed LEDs, that project light across the sculptures, change colour and brightness in relation to the pitch and volume of the sound that is sensed, to provide a hypnotic, audio-visual immersive experience. You can select the colours and sequences using an app or integrate my interactive sculptures into smart home systems and enable them to respond to their surroundings. The possibilities are limitless!
