Veronique Maria

I've worked as an artist since 1975: I currently paint and sculpt, using ceramics, wood and fibre. Previously I made permanent monumental site specific installation, created video for live art performance and 'artist’s moving image'. I also write mixed genre andpoetry and write mixed genre pieces.

Whilst my materials and techniques change, my themes remain constant. I'm interested in how we hold and navigate life-death and our existence.

Born of mixed heritage, Anglo Irish Indian) I was initially educated in New Zealand, Canada, Singapore and UK. I’m influenced and inspired by diverse spiritual practices including Moire culture, Native American ritual and craft, Buddhist philosophy, Roman Catholic ceremony and iconography and how we embody both our spirituality and our raw human nature.

My 'Gratitude Mandalas' link closely to my personal spiritual practices of meditation, mindfulness, and loving kindness.

I hope my art offers a place for contemplation, conversation and ultimately maybe some sense of peace, ease and clarity: inner knowing.

I see my paintings as invitations to dream; to find alternative viewpoints, and see from fresh perspectives.
