I am a globe-trotting artist who draws inspiration from many places: Born in Los Angeles from French parents and raised in Canada, I spent many years living in Japan. I currently live in the beautiful bilingual city of Ottawa.
Because I was born with no depth perception, I see shapes and colours vividly and in my own way. This is what has drawn me to abstract art - where I can express my feelings and create an ambience with the placement and mixing of colours.
My work has been describe as bold, feminist and unapologetic. I paint from my feelings and use bright colours to represent my intense moods. I work mainly with acrylic, and sometimes oil pastels. My favorite instrument to use are plastic cards (like credit cards, memberships cards, etc.), but I also enjoy working with paint brushes, sponges, rags, fingers, and more.
I am an emerging artist working under the tutelage of artist Catherine Shea (www.catherineshea.com) for the last 3 years. I paint intuitively to create harmony and depth on the canvas.
My first foray was a study in colour where I painted monochromatic pieces and explored the nuances of tone on tone contrasts, and how context/background alters our experience of the colour.
In my latest collection I developed a colour threading technique with my mentor, layering obscene amounts of colour together to create pieces that call out to the viewer and draw them in with intricate details. I love the different experience the pieces provide whether viewed from afar or up close.
