I am Herbert Tennison; artist, traveler, and builder. My collection is a visual understanding of the world around us. It is of the beauty that man and nature endow upon us; from imagery requiring little translation but graphically inspirational, to the more abstract and geometrical. The main sources of my inspiration lie in the remote times and outposts of the world. Much of artistic work contains imagery reflecting ancient imagery, Buddhist life and iconography, and the cathedrals of nature. Places that become a living mandala that invokes a primal calm through their tranquility. My interests, and collection, are as diverse as the world around us; led by what we see around us, and mirror those curiosities. I am driven by the catharsis of the modern and urbane. The beautiful directness in the structural steel of bridges, the fluid rigidity of a gear, the optical illusion of infinity within a succession of street lights; these invoke our sublime vision of the metropolis, and challenge us to define what we have become. I hope that through my art I can share a fresh perspective on this world and what it is to be a participant in it. To inspire, to elate, and to leave an endearing vision to our viewers that is as fresh tomorrow as it is today. Herbert Tennison Studio Vanitatum, Chicago IL
