Cloud Painting

A young Spanish artist from Catalonia, classically trained in art schools in Barcelona, Madrid and London. Castellà’s work has evolved over time, using different mediums from oil, to acrylic, watercolor and etchings. He recently has experimented using old car windshields, painted in a reverse execution technique, using bold imagery which combined with the transparence of the crystal, permeates this novel work in a surreal fashion- inspiring your imagination. In another style all together, Castellà’s etchings are directly inspired by the lush landscape and it’s influence on the lives of the villagers of the small town he now calls home. It is a celebration of life, of the red earth and mountains, the blue sky and hot sun, the grapes and trees, of the hard work that constitutes the daily life in this region where life continues much as it has for the last few centuries. La obra muestra en general, una iconografía obscura y densa que se centra en la figura humana. Las obras se alejan de lo que es una formación académica convencional para introducirse en un estilo entre el simbolismo del siglo XIX y la obra de Francis Bacon. Algunas figuras parecen situarse en ambientes cargados y obscuros que recuerdan a antiguos bares bohemios. Con una pincelada muy segura retrata hombres y mujeres aparentemente inacabados pero que sin embargo se manifiestan muy sugerentes. Utilizando únicamente los colores necesarios, cuerpos y rostros se desfiguran para mostrar de forma inquietante la psicología de los personajes. Con un marcado gusto por la imperfección y el dejar ir la mano para pintar inconscientemente lineas y trazos de los que surgen automáticamente figuras (...)
