My sculptural works are inspired by a variety of cultures and time periods. Creating compositions that harness the ever-shifting play of light and shadows that transform throughout the day. This dynamic quality combined with the structures of the materials imbues each piece with a sense of fluidity and impermanence. The process working can be described as ’slow art’ due to the layers it takes to create the Wabi Sabi effect through layering and destroying. I make each piece by hand from beginning to finish. Containing partly recycled materials for the base shapes then covered with clay, cement and paint mixed with unorthodox materials such as coffee, salt, cinnamon or crushed eye-shadow powder creating structure and a subtle shimmer effect with a wink to Japanese Kintsugi technique. Influenced by: Louise Nevelson, Axel Vervoordt, Makoto Fujimura, Barbara Hepworth, Zaha Hadid My aim is to craft an aesthetic that resonates with the interconnected nature of today’s modern world; creating contemporary wall sculptures that will transcend time.”
