Shivaraj M is a contemporary animistic artist and a graduate of the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), Mysore, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A). Rooted in animism, mysticism, and philosophy, his artistic practice is guided by the belief that all elements of nature possess spirit, consciousness, and life force. Drawing inspiration from animals, insects, and other living beings, he uses them as metaphors to express human emotions, inner psychological states, and lived experiences, creating a symbolic and contemplative visual language.
At the core of his work lies the idea that each individual is a microcosm of society. Shivaraj believes that when awareness and consciousness deepen within a single being, its impact naturally ripples outward, influencing society and ultimately the world. Through a seamless blend of realism and surrealism, his paintings explore themes of identity, transformation, balance, adaptation, and coexistence. His works often reveal the unseen forces—emotional, spiritual, and natural—that shape existence and human behavior.
