I am a painter based in South Korea. I started working as a professional artist in 2014, and I am currently working in a small studio in Suwon. My work begins by immersing myself in looking at the small objects, people, or landscapes in front of me one by one within a close radius of everyday life. I like to notice and interpret the relationship between two opposing aspects of the objects: light and shadow, warmth and coldness of color, stillness and loudness, tenderness and sharpness. I am attracted to discovering that these opposing aspects coexist in one scene, highlighting each other and sometimes mixing and connecting little by little in the middle. These aspects are physical and visual information, but I want to use them as clues that imply the emotional and abstract aspects of human beings. Conflicting information obtained through observation in this way becomes the secondary raw material for the next stage of my work. Unnecessary parts are simplified or removed, and parts are reinforced according to the message you want to reveal. In doing so, I want to reveal the contradictory aspects of myself as a human being and the large and small beings that exist in this world through the reconstructed image, and to metaphor their confrontation and harmony. I hope viewers will be able to discover such hidden metaphors from the scenes I paint.
