Freya Ryder

It was during her gap year when Freya combined two of her passions, cricket and art, that her career as an artist truly began. She painted Headingley Cricket Ground during a Roses match, a painting which she then donated to her local club to raise funds. This inspired Freya to experiment with painting her favourite players. 
 
She later secured wall space at the indoor netting facility The Cricket Asylum, in Sowerby Bridge. On a visit to the Cricket Asylum, Andrew Strauss signed his portrait. This became part of a fundraising event in aid of the charity Cricket Onside. In addition, she has donated a painting of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to Yorkshire County Cricket Club. The painting now hangs in the dressing room area at Headingley Cricket Club.

In July 2015, Freya graduated from The University of Manchester with a First Class BA History Honours degree. Cricket was not far from her mind then either, as she wrote her dissertation on the subject of cricket and imperialism.

Freya now works as an artist on a part-time basis. Freya responds to live moments whether that be a pivotal moment in a game of cricket, or a key moment in her day to day life. The pure ecstasy involved in taking that wicket, or scoring those runs is an a...
