Gavin O'Donoghue

Born in Dublin I have exhibiting professionally since 2008.
I work mainly paint but also experiment with photography and graphics. Although I have not attended art college I have been to NCAD to attend Life Drawing classes. I found these extremely helpful in getting a more accurate perspective on the human figure. I hope to take more Life Drawing sessions and explore figurative art in future.

I learnt to paint using acrylics but now use oils using a series of layers. leave pieces for a while then come back but more layers on to build texture and le the painting develop over time. I find oils now my medium of choice and like to leave a grungy feel to the painting. Elements of traditional portraiture, and elements of pop art using broad brush strokes, hands, and palate knifes. I like raw, grungy brush strokes.
My paintings have been shown in The Front Lounge , Temple Bar and Outhouse, Capel Street. I have also sold work in high profile shows such as Dublin City Soul Festival and The Scoop Art Auction. I am currently working on a solo show for 2013 and I am also working on some portraits for a documentary film maker in LA. My early worka are on display in the childrens ward of Tallaght Hospital.
