Paco Broca is one of outstanding artists in the contemporary art scene in Seville, where he was born in 1961. From childhood he felt a great interest in the arts, which took him to the Applied Arts School, where he studied Design and Stonework. He defines himself as a self-taught artist despite having undertaken further studies at the Fine Arts Faculty, specialising in Painting. Restless spirit; tireless worker; Paco feels a real passion for his craft, a passion which is felt in which works. His paintings are fresh and spontaneous, displaying a powerful expressive force. On one hand we have his oil paintings, boasting intense, vehement reds and dreamy, poetic blues. On the other his water colours, technically unsurpassed and possessing an unnatural beauty. His primary source of inspiration, without doubt, is natural landscape. He has explored it tirelessly for almost three decades. These include Sevillian scenes such as the Royal Alcazar and the river, as well as more exotic subject matter such as can be seen in his Morrocan paintings (Urban Landscapes of Tintoreros of Fez, and Desert) and his latest, wonderful series of volcanoes inspired by Etna. These paintings were recently united to form the huge exhibition which took place last October under the title of “”, including over one hundred works divided between La Sala del Apeadero del Real Alcázar and La Sala Santa Inés. It ́s worth remembering that eight years ago, in that same Santa Inés, Broca exhibited “The Mystery of the Trinity”, in which he recreated the interior of a glass-blowing factory. In that exhibition he drew an interesting parallel between the creation of glass and the creation of art. His long career has been frequently decorated by prizes, some national and others international, such as the First Prize at the Biannual International Festival of Mediterranian Artists in Rijeka (in Croatia). His work may be contemplated in private collections and museums, such as Les Vendimieres Museum in Montpellier, the Museum of Modern Art in Rijeka, The Focus Collection, and the Museum of Art and Popular Traditions in Paris. His teaching work is also highly important. He may be found sharing his knowledge in landscape painting classes, delivered in the open air at various different spots around the city. http://vimeo.com/16271960
