Simulacros/Simulations the U-Spider series offers a selection of art pieces composed by a brigade of paintings and drawings that come from the exploration of the artist, relating the study of lines based in nature, and the interpretation of forms. With the U – Spider series, Mauricio Galguera opens a dialogue with artists that precede the abstract expressionism, specifically André Masson, Alexander Calder and Joan Miró.
Using the canvas as a synthesis element, Galguera creates structured organisms and geometric figures, which evoke the frailty of existence and oblivion, but at the same time construct infinite identities in which the spectator can feel lost and unprotected, but secure and safe regardless.
As a symbol for this paradox, Galguera traces many subtle lines, usually black, that prompt shapes that reference different mundane elements, which mix with a hazy background, sometimes with color. Between the expressive line and the gesture, a contrast is generated with the geometric figure and the color fields that leave the spectator adrift in a structure of scenes, where the emptiness prevails.
This sort of simulatio...
