Sherie Harkins

Color, texture, and contrast, especially these. I have always been thrilled to find the elements of design in the world around me. My earliest memories are the secret place in my grandparent’s garden and the smooth, pale underside of poplar leaves against a stormy sky. Sometimes I am overcome by the light shining through leaves in the forest or reflected off a subject’s surface.

In addition to my background work as a freelance portrait artist, my experience includes work as a landscape designer and an instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design, as well as the Providence Art Club, along with various other public and private venues, both in person and virtually. I am currently developing several series from my studio in the woods.

Acknowledging beauty in my surroundings has calmed and restored me many times as I have opened my spirit to the possibilities of truth beyond what my limited surface understanding can comprehend. My intention is to invite others to enter the experience of everyday awesome, to look more closely at the unexpected that surrounds us, and to take time to appreciate the glorious.
