Spencer Whiting

As a mixed media artist and collector of objects I have been sourcing industrial heritage objects since the early 90s. A collection of unique items, that includes an eclectic mix of industrial, reclaimed, antique and retro inspires my prints, paintings, films & animations.

Inspired by people and place, the work I create documents the visual world, capturing and exploring multi-layered journeys that hint at the past, present and future. Much of the imagery produced sees found objects collaged together, underpinned by maps, plans and networks. Text features heavily through the work, offering a narrative, pressing the viewer to see beyond the familiar. Typically, the work explores industrial themes, drawing inspiration from the collections of objects sourced.

Working collaboratively without boundaries is a key philosophy of my practice. Growing up immersed in the early 90’s skate scene, influences of urban culture are explored through the work.
