Barbara Hart

I am a professional classical musician and the creator of contemporary fine art. My works are infused with light and energy; abstractions and impressions of nature, still life and portraiture. It is not my purpose to record but instead to portray a feeling, a mood, a universal truth about the human condition and the world we all inhabit together. The scenes of nature often portray solitude and majesty, often including a lone figure, aware of the fragility of our life. I invite the viewer to become involved in the mood of the story, in the drama that is all around us, and through my art, taking our experience of the ordinary into the realm of the extraordinary. My works are for sale and for viewing in my Toronto art studio and in the Artbyhart studios in Haliburton Ont. Works hang in galleries and private homes in Canada, USA, France and Germany.

I have taken numerous art courses at Fleming Art College, OCAD, as well as workshops in Canada, the US and France and have learned from extensive studies of the art masters. Artists of present interest are Cezanne, The Group of Seven, Max Lieberman, Wolf Kahn, John Hartmann, Peter Doig and many emerging new artists who keep me on a steady artistic learning curve. With a degree in Music Education, U of T, and a career in music teaching and performing, I am acutely aware of the close connection between the two arts; the shared means of expression and our need, through them, to powerfully interpret the human experience. Creative art is our only way to make sense of the world and I could not have done without the one or the other.
