Trace Nichols

Trace Nichols is a visual artist and educator whose work blends traditional and contemporary processes to explore timely and provocative ideas. While grounded in photography and printmaking, her practice often expands into collage, illustration, painting, and other techniques that serve the story being told. Whether addressing environmental questions, feminist histories, or the future of image-making, her work invites an exchange—often embedding information, process, or context as part of that dialogue.

Trace holds a BS in graphic design and printmaking and an MFA in photography. She has taught graduate photography at the Academy of Art University since 2009 and has worked in the field of art for over 30 years, exhibiting nationally and internationally.

Current series include Tortured Souls, a collection of AI-generated, photogravure printed portraits of iconic artists reimagined as animals.
